Admission and Selection

The eta admission policy has been developed in accordance with the general guidelines established by Higher Education Act, 1997 (Act 101 of 1997). The policy also includes general guidelines for student selection.

Appeals Grievances

All students have a right to be treated fairly and with respect. Equally, eta staff and management have the right to be treated fairly and with respect. Any staff member or student, who does not behave according to the laws of the country where eta is operating, will be reported to the relevant authorities.

Assessment Results

This policy provides the rules and guidelines regarding recording of results as well as the management of assessment reports and transcript of results. This policy will be amended from time to time while the eta Student Information System (SIS) and its on on- line study system is developed (eta connect).

Assessment Rules

This policy provides specific information, guidelines and rules relating to assessment dates, pass marks, scoring and grading and repeats. All managers and faculty are required to read this policy and apply it. All students must be made aware of this Assessment Rules policy during their assessment preparation.

Assessment

While it is acknowledged that eta employs faculty who are qualified subject experts in their field, the aim of this assessment policy is to ensure consistency and fairness in assessment. To this end, eta evaluates its assessment design and monitors assessment practices through an internal moderation process.

Bursaries

This policy provides the rules and guidelines relating to the awarding of bursaries. Because bursaries form part of our social responsibility policy as well as contributing to our Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment Score card, it is essential that all bursaries are recorded with their financial value and their receipt noted.

Certification

This policy provides guidelines for the issuing of certificates for all eta qualifications. The policy ensures that there are controls for certification and measures to minimize fraud. The design and distribution of eta certificates is the responsibility of eta National (NAT).

Fees and Payments

This policy sets out the rules relating to the publishing and management of course fees and their payment options, as well the management of defaults, cancellations and refunds, invoicing and receipting.

Health and Safety

The health and safety policy has been set to protect the occupational safety and health of eta students, employees and visitors to the premises. The policy is adapted from the Occupational Health and Safety Act of South Africa which is attached to this policy.

Moderation

Following the design of a new learning programme, the appointed programme/curriculum designer must submit all assessment designs (instruction and memos or rubrics) to the Assessment Moderation Manager. The Assessment Moderation Manager is then responsible for appointing subject-matter experts to check the quality of the assessment design.

Recognition of Prior Learning

This RPL policy provides general rules and guidelines for the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), enabling the achievement of the aims of the National Qualifications Framework, as articulated in the National Policy for Implementation of Recognition of Prior Learning (SAQA, 2013).

Student Discipline

The purpose of this document is to ensure that eta students are aware of the expected conduct. The policy also clarifies students’ right to appeal if an offence has occurred within the eta premises and grounds or if an offence has been committed by another eta student. The policy explains the disciplinary action that follows, should rules be broken or not adhered to.
