Established in 1983, eta College is a sports college offering internationally recognised fitness, coaching science and sport management courses at seven campuses around South Africa, as well as several international campuses.
We want to be your life-long learning partner– whether it’s a qualification, a short course, a workshop for CPD points or building blocks towards higher learning. Our fitness qualifications are recognised by REPS; an international register of exercise professionals.

Looking for the right online college to suit your requirements? eta Online has been running since 2000 and offers all eta College qualifications via correspondence and an online platform called eta Connect.

eta International

As well as seven campuses in South Africa, eta College has campuses in Mauritius and Dubai. New campuses are also starting up in Namibia, Botswana and India. Each campus offers a variety of courses.
Our students receive both theoretical and practical learning as well as fitness facility based real-life learning. eta College students finish with a world class qualification as well as the practical and theoretical knowledge to graduate employment ready.

1983

Our first courses were launched in 1983 under the Health Foundation; an organization formed by Dr Malcolm Marrison.

Established in 1983, eta College is a sports college offering internationally recognised fitness, coaching science and sport management courses at seven campuses around South Africa.

1985

Our first learning programme was called Exercise and Fitness Studies, this was followed by the launch of the first practical course for exercise to music in 1985.

1994

In December 1994, Linda Halliday and Steve Harris took over the reins of eta, transforming it into the accredited and registered instituiton that it is today.

1995

In 1995 eta moved to the Sport Science Institute of South Africa (SSISA).

1998

This move to SSISA led to our first full time courses for school-leavers being launched in 1998, which started off with only 30 students.

2000

In 2000, we embarked on registration with the Department of Education; now known as the the Department of Higher Education and Trainin (DHET).

2001

In 2001, we received our first certificate for conditional registration with the Department of Education and in 2004 eta achieved full accreditation from THETA (later to become CATHSSETA).

2008

2008 was the year we had our first site audits by the CHE and eta was then accredited to offer its six higher education level 5 programmes.

2012

Because there had been a number of changes in the laws governing education and traiing in South Africa in 2007, we then had to embark on a new alignment process.

2015

Following the initiation of the alignment process of our programmes in 2012, by 2015, we were officially notified of our programmes' alignment.

2016

Our conditional CHE accreditation came through for the Advanced Certificate in Fitness (Sport Conditioning) in 2015 and we will be our new level 6, advanced certificate programmes from 2018.
